New rig - All copper, all the time

Though my computer is only 4.5 years old, cringe, the weekly freezing, having 2GB of ram and being unable to keep too many things open at the same time made me decide to build a new rig.

My old computer, had the ZALMAN CNPS 9500 AM2 CPU heatsink/fan, bought at the time for $45.99.  This massive heatsink with 3 pipes and 92mm copper blades is the thing to get if you want to OC.  One issue was that it was so huge that you had to make sure that your motherboard and case would have enough room to fit this monster.  And if you bought it, make sure you have a case with a window to show it off.

What's new?  The ZALMAN CNPS9900ALED, bought, ironically, for $35 after rebate.
Main difference?  The 9900 will fit AM3 and also Intel, up to LGA 1156, not that I would buy an Intel cpu.
What else?  It's bigger, it has a bigger dissipation area and depending on use, it may be slightly louder.  Unlike the 9500, the 9900 does not come with a fan speed controller and adjusts the fan speed automatically.  It also comes included with a resistor cable which changes operation from normal mode to quiet mode.  If you don't care about the noise, keep the resistor off and you'll be getting as high as 2Krpm spin, but as high as 38dBA noise level, which is actually 10dBA more than its predecessor.  Keep the resistor on and you'll be seeing 800~1,300rpm with a noise level of 18~28.5dBA.

One thing to remember about both these coolers, the blades are very, very thin and sharp and while they will not break, they will cut your skin if you're not careful.

Unintelligent Design - Multi-page forms

How does a normal programmer handle multi-page forms?  Use a hidden "page" form element with the value being the page number.  Then use switch on the page variable.

How does an "innovative" programmer handle the same problem?  On each page, place a hidden form element named page1, page2, page3, etc.  Then use if/else checking if the variable exists.

Conserving Energy

2/19 10:45pm After having no electricity in half of the apartment, no heat, no hot water and no elevator since Friday night, finally turned back on at 10:45pm.

I'm guessing the idiot super who was hired to collect money for section 8 apartments, doesn't know how to flip a breaker and was waiting for the landlord to come and do it. I was under the impression that the reason for having non-Jewish supers is that they can deal with emergency situations on shabbat.

2/20 7:55am Still no heat or hot water.

2/20 4:45pm Finally steam and hot water back on at 4:45pm.

Emailed ConEd asking them to either email me or 311 with the time when service call was placed.

Considering 2 trucks were here since morning, guessing the idiot super didn't bother calling at all and it was only landlord who called them Saturday night, if not Sunday morning.

Or maybe it was 911 who called since there was an ambulance in front of the building at the same time as when ConEd emergency truck showed up.

Got the following email. Phone number in the email is a New York phone number and if you go to the website, it has a paragraph of "coming soon" text, with deprecated tags. The domain name he's offering is over a year old, so I'm sure enough time to put up a real site.

He lists 7201 Boyer, Montreal, Quebec H2R2R6, as his address. This is the address of some kind construction company, Aluminium Etc. Can't email them as they don't seem to have a site or an email. They do have a phone number listed, 514-945-5251, but I'm too lazy to call.

So this guy is now threatening legal action, go ahead dude.

Now here's some more info. The guy updated registration address to 5154 Rue De Cadillac, Montreal, QC H1M2K9, which, while found in Canada, is not found in Canadian White Pages. Guess what else is not found in Canadian White Pages, Magiel Greeff.

Now another name which appears associated with that address on domain registrations is Ockert Greeff, who also doesn't appear in Canadian Yellow Pages. However, the host of gm52.com, firstwebspaces.com, is registered to Ockert Greeff of 30 barnes road, brixton, johannesburg, gauteng 2092, ZA. And ZA stands for, South Afrika.

Is this a scam? Is this the new 419?

Can make no claims other than what I've said above. Email came from Magiel Greeff who is listed as owner of the domain. Both addresses do exist in Canada. But.
