Pomegranate - leave your wallet at home

The new store Pomegranate is finally open. It's huge, it has everything, there's nice music and right now they're giving away free sushi and baked goods.

Pomegranate is a clean, fully stocked supermarket, with a capital S, what it doesn't have is good prices. Some items, like tea or stem tomatoes, are cheap. Most items are very overpriced. New Square orange juice, which most stores in the area sell for $2.59, is $2.99. Milk is $2.99 and up. Yogurt that all neighborhood stores sell for $.79 is &.89. Chicken thighs are $2.49/lb. While Mountain Fruit sells BBQ chickens for $7, here, they're $11 and up. They're not yet selling sushi but I wouldn't be surprised if it's gonna be more expensive than in glatt mart. They had Nature's Own apple juice on "sale", 2 for $4. This same juice is right now in Glatt Mart for $1.79. There's no lamb in the meat section and the meat itself, some cheaper, some same, some more expensive than the other stores.

Would I shop here? Yes. But you must be very careful about the prices and about the "sales" items which may be much more expensive than the other neighborhood stores.

  1. I'll stick to Glatt Mart and Mountian Fruit.

But hey, free shiz, maybe I'll roll in there later.

    Thanx for da tip.

  2. One cool thing was a peanut butter machine loaded with peanuts. Turn the handle and you get fresh peanut butter.

  3. I'll have to check it out, Moish. Still, they will need to impress me in some way (particularly the prices) for me to patronize their business).

  4. In that case, prepare to be very disappointed.

  5. That's so cool, I forgot they open today! I should go check it out...

The peanut butter machine sounds cool.
Maybe after the first few months or something, the prices will start to stabilize. It's the beginning so its expected to be overpriced.

  6. Fact of the matter is, though, there are plenty of people in Flatbush who are very well to do and for whom the prices won't be the primary consideration - comfort, space, availability and choice and cleanliness will matter.

  7. Bourgeoisie bastards, ruining my shopping experience.

  8. most importantly: is there a parking lot?

second most important: do they stock all brands or just the heimish ones?

  9. the real most important question is if they stock Pomegranates all year round and not just rosh hashanah time. With a name like Pomegranate they had better.

  10. Parking lot, with valet parking, should be operational tomorrow. They had Tuscan milk and organic chickens. Most stores around here sell normal brands anyway.

They had pomegranates, and I'm pretty sure pomegranate juice too.

  11. "Most stores around here sell normal brands anyway"

not always true, especially when it concerns dairy products

  12. There are so many issues with quality of life in New York, Brooklyn included. There is no concept of "valet parking" in most places outside of New York when it comes to supermarkets (and I'm sure there are part of NYC where that's the case too). I'm used to huge Pennsylvanian supermarkets with their big parking lots.

  13. I agree with Moshe. "Pomegranate" is way to expensive. I waited for 2 years to get into this store. When I went in, i was disappointed. common.. everything is so damn expensive. One thing that I respect about Moshe, is that he always speaks the truth. He calls the things what they are, and never sugar coats it.

I though this big mega-store would put smaller stores like, M-discount and glatt mart out of business, but I was wrong. In few month the hype will be over, and it might be pomegranate tats a out of business. One good thing about this store is thats its open late, but come on, everything is to damn expensive, from sushi to spring water.

Moshe, you are man of truth...keep it up..
